People Think Chrissy Teigen’s Skin Was White-Washed for This Magazine Cover

Saturday, October 7th, 2017

Chrissy Teigen might be the latest victim of white-washing in the fashion industry—at least, according to some fans who are accusing InStyle magazine of erasing the 31-year-old model’s Thai features on the cover of their November issue.

After Teigen’s cover debuted this week, angry fans took to a forum on the fashion site, The Fashion Spot, to express their outrage over InStyle‘s alleged Photoshop. The commenters mainly accused the magazine of lightening Teigen’s skin and changing her eyeshape. Teigen, who is half Thai, is naturally tan and has almond-shaped eyes—features some fans found missing on her recent cover.

Along with allegations of white-washing, some also accused InStyle of airbrushing Teigen’s pores and facial lines—a surprise to most, considering the “Lip Sync Battle” host has been a vocal proponent of Photoshop-free pictures. A few of the comments included:

“OK, so… this is awkward. The amount of Photoshop in that cover is downright atrocious. They’ve airbrushed Chrissy’s face into oblivion, to the point where she is unrecognizable. Am I the only one who’s sat here shocked? Yikes!”

“Who is this woman?! she certainly doesn’t look like Chrissy! talk about whitewashing…”

“They just about whitewashed every inch of exoticness Chrissy had. This is so painstakingly mediocre it’s not even funny.”

Though Teigen’s skin looks suspiciously smooth and pale on her cover, it’s important to note that there is no confirmation of Photoshop. And, considering that lighting and angles could also be at play, we won’t know for sure until InStyle or Teigen comments themselves. However, Teigen’s decision to not post the cover or any of the issue’s photos on her Instagram (at least, not immediately) seems to speak volumes.

Beyoncé Debuted Gorgeous New Extensions on a Date With Jay Z

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017

Long hair, Beyoncé doesn’t care. On Friday, the 36-year-old singer ditched her usual mid-length wavy blonde hair for honey blonde, mermaid-length extensions that went all the way to her waist. The mom of three debuted her new hair, which she wore stick-straight with a middle part, on a date night with husband, Jay Z, to ABC Kitchen in New York City.

For the date, Beyoncé paired her hair with a leopard-print purse, strappy black shoes, and a form-fitting grey dress. Bey was evidently such a fan of the outfit that she showed it off later on Instagram with a slideshow of snaps of her flaunting her curves and whipping her crazy-long hair.

Fans caught a glimpse of her hair again on Saturday when Bey accompanied her husband, who performed on “Saturday Night Live” earlier that night, to an “SNL” afterparty at Tao in New York City.

According to Us Weekly, Beyoncé, who kept her look casual with a white blouse and high-waisted black pants, partied until the wee hours of the morning with her husband, Alicia Keys, and hip-hop artist, Swizz Beatz. In that time, the “Crazy in Love” singer also snuck in a selfie with “SNL” castmate, Leslie Jones, who fangirled over the shot later on Twitter.

5 Celebrity Makeup Tricks from a Kardashian Makeup Artist

Friday, September 29th, 2017

You’re likely well-aware that Kim Kardashian employs an entire glam squad to keep her camera-ready. That illustrious group of beauty pros includes Patrick Ta, La Mer Global Makeup Ambassador who, in addition to Kim and sister Kylie Jenner, has also painted the faces of Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, and Olivia Munn—all while earning a massive social media following of his own.

Here, Ta shares five no-nonsense tips that will make your daily routine easier and a little more glamourous.

Prep Your Skin

“Even those with oily skin can be a little dry,” says Ta. “I always want to make sure that skin is nice and moisturized prior to applying foundation, because the more plump your skin is, the more natural and flawless the skin looks. No cakeyness!” La Mer The Moisturizing Gel is one of his favorites to hydrate all skin types without the shine or grease factor.

Contour First

Contrary to popular belief, Ta believes it’s best to apply contour prior to foundation to achieve a healthy, lit-from-within glow. Brushing the foundation over contour decreases the chance of stark bronze lines on cheekbones and makes the tan appear way more natural. “The Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate blends out nicely, especially when used with a fluffy brush,” Ta advises.

Mix It Up

“I like for skin to look like skin—healthy, glowy and gorgeous,” Ta says. “Mixing a face oil with foundation helps to break down the formula so you can really see the complexion.” Remember, the more oil you add, the less coverage you’ll have, so if you’re looking to heavily camouflage imperfections, just add a drop. However, if you’re looking for a barely there foundation, mix in a generous dime-sized dollop.

Make Brows Bold

Ta favors full brows to frame the face. “Apply Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade with a small angled brush, and brush forward the end of your brow in small strokes,” he recommends. “Those brows will not move all day!” Be advised that a little bit does go a long way.

Always Highlight

Everyone wants a romantic, candle-lit glow without the overdone look or cake-factor.  Ta recommends setting a highlighter with a mist. “This will break down the particles a bit, while keeping all of the beautiful sparkle.”

Lady Gaga Traumatized Beyoncé by Smoking ‘Nine Joints’ of Weed in Front of Her

Monday, September 25th, 2017

We had a feeling that Lady Gaga and Beyoncé had a unique friendship, but it wasn’t until now that we understood the depth of their puzzling bond. In her new Netflix documentary, “Gaga: Five Foot Two,” the 31-year-old singer perfectly summed up her relationship with Bey with a story about how she gave the mom of three a “panic attack” by smoking “nine joints” in front of her.

The story—which might’ve been missed by most viewers, considering it was aired in the end credits—began with Gaga telling a friend about the time she ran into Beyoncé and her husband, Jay Z, in the middle of hitting a blunt.

“That was the night I gave Beyoncé a panic attack,” Gaga said. “I don’t know. I just always feel like when I’m with her and Jay Z, I’m always hanging out in the corner with like nine joints hanging out of my mouth being like ‘Whaaaaat’s up?!’”

Though we’re sure Beyoncé doesn’t judge anyone based on their weed intake, Gaga recalls the singer having a not-so-comfortable reaction to walking in on her blazing it. “She’s like ‘You’re not a lady but why? How is this working?’” Gaga said.

The Weird Reason Adriana Lima Loves Showering With Her Mascara On

Friday, September 22nd, 2017

As a Victoria’s Secret model, a mom of two, and the face for dozens of cosmetics and fashion brands, Adriana Lima is likely always on the go. So after a long day of photo shoots and meetings, it makes sense that the 36-year-old model would want to top off her night with a nice, relaxing shower. What’s a little unusual is how she likes to shower with her makeup on—not because she’s lazy—but because she likes the way it runs over her body.

Lima opened up about her weird beauty habit in an interview with InStyle, in which she also outed herself as a low-key mascara fanatic. In the interview, Lima talked about her obsession with mascara (particularly Maybelline’s Falsies and Lash Sensational), and how the blacker, the better. “I love mascara on the eyes. I like it to be very black, and I like when you just apply lots of layers,” Lima said. “So on my days off, I just apply over and over and over.”

Lima’s obsession with mascara is so extreme that she sometimes takes showers for funsies, just so she can see the mascara run down her skin and reapply it afterward. “When I shower, the mascara runs over my skin, I wipe it off, and I apply it on top again. I absolutely love it,” Lima said.

Showering with mascara isn’t the only unconventional part of Lima’s beauty routine. The Victoria’s Secret Angel also revealed her secret to shiny, luscious hair. To get her runway-ready locks, Lima mixes her conditioner with—get this—a mashed avocado. After spreading the concoction on her tresses, Lima puts on a shower cap and waits 15 minutes before rinsing it out. The secret, which is passed down from Brazilian women in her family, transforms Lima’s hair from its naturally dry texture to silky lusciousness.

“You take one avocado—I am not joking. You mash the avocado, you mix with whatever conditioner you have, you put it on your hair, and you put on a shower cap for like 15 minutes,” Lima said. “When you wash it off, your hair is gonna be shiny, shiny, shiny!”

Though we don’t normally associate avocado—or mascara—with the shower, we’re down for anything. If it’ll give us Adriana Lima–level looks, we guess a guacamole-conditioner hybrid is worth a try.

How Kourtney Kardashian Uses Green Tea to Help Keep Her Diet Balanced

Thursday, September 14th, 2017

As a mom of three, Kourtney Kardashian is always thinking about the healthiest options—not just for her little ones, but for herself. But as a mere human, the 38-year-old reality star knows how hard it is sometimes to fight cravings, which is why she’s picked up a smart trick over the years to resist less-healthy foods and stay on track with a balanced diet.

In a new post on her website, Kourtney revealed that bread baskets at restaurants are one of her biggest vices. And though bread isn’t bad (hello, we love it) devouring a whole basket’s worth before digging into an entrée that likely contains important nutrients like protein and fiber may not what be everyone’s body always wants or needs.

So, Kourtney said her first order of business when eating out is to a cup of green tea with almond milk and honey. Of course, the tea isn’t to replace her food; it’s simply to keep her hands and taste buds occupied with a healthy option until her real meal arrives. And while the fact that green tea is good for you certainly isn’t groundbreaking—it’s well-established and research-backed that the drink contains tons of antioxidants, nutrients, and can benefit your body in major ways—we like the idea of sipping on something sweet, satisfying, and good for you while waiting for an entrée.

The post, titled “How I Eat Healthy Wherever I Go,” also delved into Kourtney’s other health tips, including the fact that she’s not afraid to ask point-blank where her food is coming from. “I talk to the restaurants in my neighborhood and find out where they source their food. I’ll ask if their meat is grass-fed, whether or not their produce is organic or local, things like that,” she wrote. “Being informed helps me choose the best local restaurants to go to with my family.”

As for times when there aren’t many healthy options around, like the airport, the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star makes sure to pack a bag of Kourtney-approved snacks for her kids to munch on. “Bringing your own snacks—especially for the kids—is a great way to have healthy options that everyone likes,” she wrote. “Also, if we’re gone for a big trip, I’ll pack a bag full of gluten-free snacks to bring with us, so we have our pantry staples wherever we go.”

Though Kourtney’s diet might seem strict to some, it’s important to note that she’s simply sharing a system that works for her, and everyone’s body is different. What works for Kourtney may not work for you. If restaurant bread baskets are one of your great joys in life (raises hand) then we certainly don’t advocate depriving yourself.

Exactly How to Pull Off Rounded Winged Eyeliner

Sunday, September 10th, 2017

Fashion Week has always set the tone for the next big beauty trends. It brought us bold lips (a look we don’t see going anywhere anytime soon), Renaissance-inspired braids, monochromatic makeup, and no-makeup-makeup that still makes us rejoice on the inside.

But if we’re honest, the trends we love most are the styles we can actually try at home without help from a friend or pro. So when models at this week’s Tom Ford and Jason Wu shows sported rounded winged eyeliner, naturally, we were thrilled. Just when we thought eyeliner couldn’t get any better, makeup artists rounded the look for an effect that’s both sexy and casual—and not that hard to do.

MORE: The 10 Best Black Eyeliners That Won’t Smudge

To create the look yourself, messy is the key word to remember. You’ll want to throw precision out the window, grab your favorite creamy shadow and create a circle with a small brush or even your pinky.

MORE: What It’s Like to Have An Eating Disorder During Fashion Week

Although you don’t have to be too perfectionistic, you’ll want to take proper care in making sure the liner is even on both eyes, so keep your Q-tips handy to clean up the edges. Since eyes are your face’s focal point (second to brows of course), you want to aim for a generally symmetrical look.

Best of all, rounded winged eyeliner doesn’t require careful application on your inner waterline (goodbye tight-lining!) and the more smudged it is, the better. So take a look at our favorite rounded looks from Fashion Week and try them at home, keeping in mind the end result should be gorgeously diffused and soft-focus.

Khloe Kardashian Got Fewer Deals Than Sisters Because She Was ‘Heavier’

Wednesday, September 6th, 2017

The Kardashian-Jenners are some of the most sought-after influencers for lucrative and high-profile Instagram sponsorships. But for a time, Khloe Kardashian was left out of that pack. In a new essay for Glamour, the 33-year-old reality star opens up about her body insecurities and how she got significantly fewer endorsement deals than her sisters, Kim and Kourtney, because she was “heavier.”

In the essay, which looks back at Khloe’s 10-year journey on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” the youngest Kardashian sister admits that she didn’t see the impact of reality TV fame until the “fourth or fifth season.” This is largely because she was often passed over for sponsorships and endorsement deals because she didn’t have the same body as her sisters. “The truth is that I was heavier then too, so not a lot of endorsements were coming my way,” Khloe writes. “Brands would prefer to align themselves with Kim or Kourtney, which I was totally fine with because I was still along for the ride. But it’s also a very sad thing to realize that most brands are interested only in pretty, cute, in-shape girls.”

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

MORE: Khloe Kardashian Uses a Vibrator During Her Workout

The experience led Khloe to partner with less glamorous brands, like tampon companies, so that she could fit in. She admitted that the experience eventually drained her self-worth—something she didn’t fully realize until recently, when she became more comfortable in her skin.

“There were things I did back then that made me think, ‘Why am I doing this?’ I once did a deal with a tampon company, and I was like, ‘Why am I so thirsty?’ But I was young, and you feel pressure; you see your sisters getting deals and you’re like, ‘Should I be doing something? Is a pad commercial all I can get? Well, OK then.’ The older you get, and the more comfortable you become in your skin, the more you begin to think about what makes sense for you. ”

MORE: Khloe Kardashian Just Dyed Her Hair Bronde

However, judging from Khloe’s story, it seems like the unrealistic body standards for women in the world of Instagram sponsorships hasn’t changed. Khloe admits that it wasn’t until she began exercising more and changing her body that endorsement deals started ramping up. “When I started getting in shape and when I first got married, a different amount of attention came my way,” she wrote. “Because I had already seen my sisters go through it, I was able to be pickier about my opportunities.”

Sigh. While it’s not exactly news that major brands don’t always prioritize diverse beauty standards in their ads, we hope that Khloe speaking up about the experience will help raise awareness—for both brands and consumers—that the norms they so often perpetuate can be seriously destructive to women, even one as seemingly confident and empowered as Khloe Kardashian.
